A quick search on TripAdvisor identified 35 pages of reviews from around the world that reference bed bugs. Considering that 81% of travelers read recent reviews when booking places to stay, a single bed bug incident can have significant financial consequences.

According to the University of Kentucky, just one negative report of bed bugs on an online review site can cost a 300-room hotel catering to business travelers $274,000 per month in revenue.
