After Acquisition, WoodSpring Sees Milestone Development Growth

ROCKVILLE, MD—The WoodSpring Suites brand is strengthening its position in the extended-stay segment, following joining the Choice Hotels family of brands on Feb. 1. In total, 33 new WoodSpring Suites franchise agreements were awarded in the first quarter, the highest level of quarterly activity in the brand’s history, including 31 since the acquisition, according to the brand.

The WoodSpring Suites brand outpaced the extended-stay segment with a RevPAR increase of 13.5% compared to the same period of the prior year. A total of 17 hotel openings and more than 50 groundbreakings are planned for this year, including the first-ever property in Oregon. Four WoodSpring Suites hotels opened in the first quarter, all of which were in top tier markets:

  • WoodSpring Suites Chicago-Tinley Park is in Tinley Park, IL, located 16 miles from Chicago Midway International Airport and a short ride from downtown Chicago museums, ballparks and other tourist attractions.
  • WoodSpring Suites Detroit-Rochester Hills is located between Detroit and Pontiac, MI, a short distance from three area hospitals and two miles from Volkswagen Group of America.
  • WoodSpring Suites Providence is two miles from downtown Providence, RI and near the State House, Brown University and Quonset Point Naval Air Station.
  • WoodSpring Suites Seattle-Redmond, is located near the Microsoft Millennium Campus in Redmond, WA, about 16 miles from Seattle.

The WoodSpring Suites brand expects to surpass 250 hotel openings this year.

The MainStay Suites and Suburban Extended Stay hotel brands also experienced record growth in the first quarter of this year. Choice awarded 13 franchise agreements combined for the MainStay Suites and Suburban brands. Additionally, the MainStay Suites brand experienced an 11.4% increase in RevPAR as compared to the same period of the prior year.
