NATIONAL REPORT—Hotel developments are underway across the United States. With a retreat in New York’s Catskill Mountains getting a refresh, plus a dual-brand in a tourist destination, here’s some new-build projects to know:

Construction Underway for Retreat in New York

Developed by Dream Hotel Group and designed by Nunzio Marc DeSantis Architects, The Chatwal Lodge will be part of the ongoing restoration and revitalization of New York’s Catskill Mountains. Among 26 acres along the wooded shores of the 1,000-acre Toronto Reservoir, the five-star luxury retreat is expected to open in spring 2020 with 34 private villas and suite accommodations, rustic design and farm-to-table culinary experiences by Ducasse Paris, founded by multi-Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse.

The Chatwal Lodge has hand-hewn timbers, oversized stone fireplaces and trunks of 40-ft. white pine trees towering from floor to ceiling in the Main Lodge. Meeting and event venues located at water’s edge are for corporate retreats, social events and destination weddings. Harmonizing with nature, its serene spa offerings will also include wellness services.

Dual-Brand in the Works in Orlando, FL

Miami-based Riviera Point Invest + Develop has officially topped off the 101-room La Quinta Del Sol, a dual-brand hotel located on International Dr. near SeaWorld. The top-off celebration took place while construction on the Tryp by Wyndham Seaworld continued to progress. Construction of the dual-brand hotel, 3.3-acre project will cost $39 million.

The 53,094-sq-ft. La Quinta is expected to open in the second quarter of 2019. The four-story hotel will include a fitness center, a pool and restaurant. The select-service hotel will cater to midscale and upper-midscale travelers The 53,647-sq.-ft. Tryp by Wyndham will open in early 2020.

GLō to Open Near Chicago 

Best Western Hotels & Resorts celebrated the arrival of its modern and energetic boutique brand, GLō, with a groundbreaking ceremony in McCook, IL.

When GLō McCook opens in 2020, the hotel will be a welcome an addition to the Chicago suburb with 76 guestrooms and amenities including a fitness center, conference center, a large breakfast area and an indoor pool. The property will be close to Chicago Midway Airport, the city’s largest zoo and downtown Chicago.

Study Hotel Expands to University of Chicago

Study Hotels is continuing their expansion into university markets with its third property, The Study at University of Chicago. The new hotel plans to open its doors to guests in the first quarter of 2021.

The 167-room hotel will have the brand’s signature Study units and suites, a tavern/restaurant, approximately 4,700 sq. ft. of conference space and a Winter Garden for social occasions and celebrations.

Close to the center of campus, the hotel will be adjacent to a new major university facility—the Rubenstein Forum, a center for intellectual exchange and special events—and the newly renovated Keller Center, the expanded home for the Harris Public Policy school.

Spirides Arranges Loan for New Radisson in Florence, SC

Spirides Hospitality Finance Company has successfully arranged, and its client has closed a $5-million construction to permanent first priority mortgage loan from a southeast U.S. headquartered bank to finance the development of a new Radisson Park Inn in Florence, SC

This soon to be built Radisson Park Inn will be a limited-service hotel with 60 guestrooms and suites in a three-story interior corridor building situated on 1.5 acres of land. Hotel features will include a breakfast area, business center, indoor swimming pool, fitness center, guest laundry, meeting room, market and vending area. The hotel will be located in the Fairfield Festival business and retail development and will be situated close to Florence city center.
