What’s New in Vacation Ownership?

INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Major vacation ownership brands are making plans in the U.S. and abroad. Here’s a look at what’s new and coming soon:

Marriott Vacation Club Plans New Resort in Costa Rica

Marriott Vacation Club unveiled plans for its newest proposed resort and sales gallery. Located in the 1,100-acre, master-planned community of Los Sueños Resort and Marina, and within the Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort complex overlooking Herradura Bay, the 24 spacious two-bedroom lock-off villas are anticipated to be available to welcome owners and guests after the company completes the acquisition of the finished units in early 2021. The company also expects to debut a sales gallery with a distinctive design that complements the area’s natural surroundings.

While other Marriott Vacation Club resorts can be found throughout the U.S., Caribbean, Europe and Asia, this will be the vacation ownership brand’s first property in Central America. The resort is being developed by a partnership of CPG Hospitality and Enjoy Group, two hospitality investment and management companies in the region, which also own the Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort.

Margaritaville Vacation Club by Wyndham Opens New Resort Destination

Wyndham Destinations is continuing the expansion of the Margaritaville Vacation Club portfolio with the opening of its fourth vacation club resort destination in Las Vegas, in February 2020.

With current locations in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas, USVI, and a location in Downtown Nashville set to open next week, the new Margaritaville Vacation Club by Wyndham – Desert Blue, a proposed future resort, offers club members a second U.S.-based resort.

The Margaritaville Vacation Club by Wyndham – Desert Blue’s suites will have a nautical theme and includes one-bedroom standard and one-, two- and three-bedroom deluxe configurations, with separate bedrooms, and spacious living and dining areas. Every suite also offers kitchenettes or fully equipped kitchens, complete with a Frozen Concoction Maker for club members to make drinks in the suite. Elsewhere around the resort, there are two outdoor pools and hot tubs, as well as wading area and children’s splash pad.

Holiday Inn Club Vacations Expands Williamsburg Resort

Holiday Inn Club Vacations Incorporated has opened a new four-story building at its Holiday Inn Club Vacations Williamsburg Resort. In alignment with the company’s commitment to grow offerings for its club members and guests, the new development adds 24 villas, including six Signature Collection villas and the first three-bedroom options available at the resort.

Family-friendly amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, playgrounds, a sport court and an 18-hole mini golf course, as well as a four-lane bowling alley and other attractions in the Town Square activity center.

This Williamsburg expansion follows the addition of a new Signature Collection building and pool in Cape Canaveral, FL in 2018, while more than 700 villas are renovated each year across the resort network.

Holiday Inn Club Vacations Adds David Walley’s Resort to Portfolio

Holiday Inn Club Vacations Incorporated has added the Lake Tahoe, CA-area David Walley’s Resort to its portfolio, as part of the company’s goal to continue expanding its resort network and experience offerings. The historic property, now named Holiday Inn Club Vacations David Walley’s Resort, is located in Genoa, NV, and was originally built by David and Harriet Walley in 1862.

David Walley’s Resort is now accessible to all Holiday Inn Club members to use with their Club Points, one of the great benefits of ownership. The property offers 108 one- and two-bedroom villas and dining at the 1862 Restaurant & Saloon. The resort’s most notable features are its five natural mineral hot springs, which have attracted many prominent American figures over the years, including Mark Twain and Clark Gable.

After acquiring the resort in late 2018, the company has worked with the owners’ association for the resort and its board of directors to complete an array of renovations and enhancements, including upgrades to the hot spring pools and restaurant and saloon. Holiday Inn Club Vacations plans to make continued improvements and additions to the resort as a key destination in its network, with plans to open a convenience market by year’s end and start extensive interior renovations to the villas in 2020.
