Waldorf Astoria New York Appoints New Hospitality, Culinary Leadership

NEW YORK—Waldorf Astoria New York has appointed Abby Murtagh as resident manager, David Garcelon as executive director of food & beverage and Peter Betz as executive chef.

As respected professionals in the hospitality and culinary industries, Murtagh, Garcelon and Betz will bring exceptional leadership, skill and knowledge to their respective positions, according to the company.

Previously, Abby Murtagh served as executive assistant manager of F&B for the hotel. With experience spanning 20 years in the hospitality industry, Murtagh has held leadership roles throughout her career within diverse enterprises, including Hershey Entertainment and Resort Company, CapStar, Interstate, Kimpton, Merritt/HEI, Northwood Hospitality and the Luxury division of Hilton Worldwide.

David Garcelon has more than 20 years of executive chef experience held at various locations across North America. In addition to his previous role as director of culinary at Waldorf Astoria New York, Garcelon held positions at Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto; The Fairmont Southampton Bermuda; Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Jasper, Alberta; and CP Hotels’ The Lodge at Kananaskis, Kananaskis, Alberta where he implemented programming to support sustainability.

Peter Betz has been a part of the Waldorf Astoria New York family for 20 years. Through his career growth from executive banquet chef to executive sous chef, Betz will now be responsible for overseeing the property’s F&B operations as well as its three dining venues.
