U.S. Government Bans Drop-Side Cribs

WASHINGTON, DC–In a move that will affect hotels nationwide, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has banned the manufacturing, sale and resale of drop-side cribs.

The ban comes following millions of product recalls and more than 30 infant deaths in the last decade. The requirement that all cribes feature fixed sides will be placed into effect in June 2011. The use of drop-side cribs by hotels and childcare centers will be outlawed, however, they will be given a year to purchase new cribs.
