BANGKOK, THAILAND—InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has brought its boutique hotel brand, Hotel Indigo, to Southeast Asia with the opening of Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road.
The 192-room Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road features vertical gardens to reflect Bangkok’s iconic Lumpini Park, which is just minutes away; street art style murals that depict the story of the surrounding area; and custom art pieces such as a wall of wireless radios that reflects the area’s history as the birthplace of the country’s wireless radio stations.
Oliver Horn, general manager of the hotel, said; “Wireless Road is in the heart of the city and our neighbors include award-winning restaurants, art galleries, parks, shopping malls and cultural landmarks. This part of Bangkok has long been associated with Thailand’s love of radio. Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road gives our guests the chance to have an authentic experience of this thriving area and immerse themselves in this exciting neighborhood, in addition to having a stylish base to relax and recharge before another day of exploring.”
According to IHG, no two of the 62 Hotel Indigo properties around the world are alike as each reflects its immediate neighborhood through its design, food and beverage, amenities and services.
Alan Watts, COO, AMEA, IHG, commented; “Demand for boutique hotels continues to grow rapidly amongst travelers with an interest in art, design and local exploration. They are looking for unique and individual hotel experiences combined with exceptional facilities, dining and great service. This is exactly what Hotel Indigo provides—all the style and flair of a boutique hotel with the reassurance and quality that a leading hotel group can offer.”
As well as guestrooms featuring spa-inspired bathrooms, locally sourced toiletries, private balconies and complimentary high-speed WiFi, the hotel’s open-air infinity edge pool and deck provides views of the city.
Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road’s Food & Beverage neighborhood café, Metro on Wireless, serves Thai and Western cuisines. The hotel’s 22 Steps cocktail bar offers cocktails with Thai influences and inspired by Thai flavors. Later in the year, the hotel will open its new signature dining venue, CHAR.
The hotel was designed by HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates. HBA’s goal was to design a hotel that is unique to its location by integrating the neighborhood story into the design.
The Hotel Indigo brand was launched in 2004, making it one of IHG’s youngest brands. Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road is the 62nd Hotel Indigo property to open globally and is the first of 10 to be launched across Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) over the next few years.
