OGUNQUIT, ME—Rockbridge has named Destination Hotels, specializes in independent hotels and resorts in North America, as the new operator for The Cliff House Resort & Spa, an oceanfront hotel here located on 70 acres.
Rockbridge closed the property at the end of October to oversee a multimillion-dollar renovation, with plans for re-opening The Cliff House in July 2016 as a four-star, year-round resort. The resort will feature over 26,000 sq. ft. of indoor meeting space plus three outdoor event venues.
As part of the repositioning, the resort will reopen with fully renovated guestrooms; a reconcepting of the resort’s restaurants and bars, including a classic Maine lobster shack and a feature restaurant showcasing locally-sourced cuisine. In April 2017, additional guestroom suites will open featuring panoramic cliffside ocean views.
The Cliff House Resort & Spa first opened during the post-Civil War era in 1872, during the spur of the New England railroad industry by Elsie Jane Weare.
