Red Roof Expands The Red Collection

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD—Following the launch of its first soft brand and amid the growing demand for affordable and accessible hotels, Red Roof revealed at the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) Convention here that it is introducing a second property in The Red Collection in Springfield, IL.

The State House Inn, located in the capital city of the state, is slated to open for business in September, as the brand expands its footprint with Packard Hospitality Management LLC, a veteran franchisee in the industry. Based on comprehensive consumer research, Red Roof created The Red Collection to bring modern and affordable accommodations to the hearts of cities travelers love. The Red Collection’s flagship location, The St. Clair Hotel in Downtown Chicago, will open later this year.

“Demand for The Red Collection has been very strong since we launched the soft brand last year,”  Andrew Alexander, president of Red Roof, told Hotel Business. “Franchisees understand the consumer appeal of hyper-local, city-center hotels at an affordable price point and the value of an experienced brand. As we expand The Red Collection to major cities, resort destinations and state capitals across the country, The State House Inn opening is a stake in the ground for the brand in the historic state capital of Springfield.”

The State House Inn is one of seven Red Roof properties franchised by Packard Hospitality Management, a partner with Red Roof since 2015. The group owns and operates properties across the Red Roof portfolio, including Red Roof Inn locations, Red Roof Plus locations and now the latest property in The Red Collection.

The 125-key State House Inn will undergo a full renovation. Located in Downtown Springfield, guests will be near the Illinois State Capitol, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and the Illinois State Museum.

“Packard Hospitality Management is introducing the first franchised property of The Red Collection, a testament to the demand we see for unique and affordable hotels located in the centers of cities travelers love,” said Phil Hugh, chief development officer with Red Roof. “The Red Collection is an attractive offering for franchisees as Red Roof continues the expansion of sub-brands in our portfolio to accommodate the diverse needs of travelers across the country.”

“The State House Inn in Springfield, IL, is the perfect property for our first franchised venture as part of The Red Collection,” added Michael Goldstein, president/CEO with Packard Hospitality Management. “Based on the consumer research Red Roof conducted, we know that hyper-local and affordable city-center hotels are in demand, providing us with enhanced opportunities to continue our successful development track record in the industry.”

Added Alexander, “The Red Collection is not just the first soft brand in the Red Roof portfolio—it is a unique offering for the industry as a whole. We conducted comprehensive consumer research prior to launching The Red Collection and found that travelers were dissatisfied with their city-center hotel options. They want accommodations that are modern, hyper-local, and, most importantly, affordable. The Red Collection is perfect for these travelers, as each property will feature a unique name and authentic decor specific to the city that it calls home, all while offering a competitive rate.”
