NATIONAL REPORT—Hospitality companies and associations are adding to their rosters. Here’s a closer look at the recent industry promotions and appointments:

HSMAI Appoints Red Roof’s Marina MacDonald as Chair

The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) has appointed Marina MacDonald, chief marketing officer, Red Roof, chair of its 2020 Americas Board of Directors and Executive Committee. The board is composed of travel and hospitality executives from a representative selection of HSMAI members.

CMO of Red Roof for more ten years, MacDonald has forged a path—and acted as a role model—for women who aspire to leadership positions in the hospitality industry. One of her most notable achievements was launching the Red Roof Forum on Leadership for Women Entrepreneurs that showcases women in the hospitality industry

Sandpiper Hospitality Makes Leadership Changes

Sandpiper Hospitality has made several promotions and added a new regional manager in preparation for future growth:

Mark Schwenker has been promoted to VP of operations after joining the company in 2018 and leading the successful transition and oversight of the company’s Extended Stay America portfolio.

Candace Reynolds has been promoted to VP of human resources after two years with the company shaping and then leading all the company’s talent strategies.

Victor Cruz has been promoted to VP of revenue management after joining the company in 2016 and achieving market share success year-after-year.

Beth Grove has been promoted to regional manager after several years as a general manager and area general manager for the company in Frederick, MD.

Evan Verbeek has been promoted to regional revenue manager after several years as general manager in Virginia Beach, VA.

Additionally, Kenneth Almy has recently joined Sandpiper Hospitality as a regional manager based in Texas. Almy has experience with extended-stay hotels in the Southwest and southern states.

Rosewood Promotes Caroline MacDonald to VP of Global Sales & Marketing

Rosewood Hotel Group has promoted Caroline MacDonald from VP of global sales & marketing to group VP of sales, distribution and business performance. In this role, Caroline will be responsible for leading the global sales, revenue management and partnership marketing teams across the group’s distinct brands including Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, New World Hotels & Resorts and KHOS.

With nearly 30 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry, MacDonald originally joined Rosewood Hotel Group in 2016 as VP of sales and marketing, Americas and Europe. She was promoted to VP of global sales and marketing in 2019. Prior to joining Rosewood, MacDonald spent 15 years with Auberge Resorts & Hotels, initially as SVP of sales and marketing before assuming the position of chief marketing officer.

Chesapeake Hospitality Names Cassie Bond VP of Revenue Strategy

Chesapeake Hospitality has named Cassie Bond VP of revenue strategy. Bond joined Chesapeake Hospitality in December 2008 as revenue manager and has stepped into several leadership positions within the company over the years leading to this most recent appointment.

In her new role, Bond will create and execute the global revenue management strategy for the Chesapeake portfolio while leading all of the company’s corporate and property level revenue management team members. Prior to joining Chesapeake, Bond served as assistant revenue manager of InterContinental Tampa.

AHC Hospitality Promotes Two to F&B Team

AHC Hospitality has promoted Josef Huber and Darin Jemison to regional VP of food and beverage and regional director of food and beverage, respectively.

Huber joined the AHC Hospitality family in 1997 and has held his position of corporate executive chef for over two decades. In his new role, Huber will lead and manage all food and beverage operations of AHC Hospitality’s third-party managed properties.

Celebrating 30 years with AHC Hospitality this year, Jemison was director of food and beverage projects and procurement for AHC Hospitality. Jemison’s new role will allow him to work in conjunction with the VP of food and beverage to oversee the day-to-day operations of the five downtown Grand Rapids properties while continuing to be the procurement specialist for new projects.
