New York Gets Moxy, Plus More Openings This Week

NATIONAL REPORT—New York City has got Moxy, Sonesta marks its first dual-branded property and more hotels have opened in the U.S. market.

Moxy Times Square

With the transformation of a historic building into a dynamic, design-driven hotel, Moxy Times Square has opened its doors and now offers 612 bedrooms and over 22,000 sq. ft. of flexible event space.

Formerly the New Mills Hotel, built in 1907 in midtown Manhattan on 36th St. and 7th Ave., the new hotel was developed by Lightstone. The real estate company has additional properties planned for New York City, Miami and Los Angeles.

To bring this Moxy property to life, a team of collaborators was formed: Yabu Pushelberg for the design of the bedrooms, lobby and second floor public spaces; Stonehill & Taylor on architectural design; TAO Group to cultivate the F&B program; Rockwell Group to design the restaurant and bar spaces; and New Stand to run retail operations.

Sonesta ES Suites Gwinnett Place Atlanta

Sonesta International Hotels Corporation has unveiled its first dual-branded property, bolstering the brand’s position within the Atlanta market. In June, Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta began transforming one of its two hotel towers into the Sonesta ES Suites Gwinnett Place Atlanta, which will offer 81 newly designed efficiency, studio and one-bedroom suites. The new hotel, due to open mid-November, will have spacious bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and separate living areas.

Fairfield Inn & Suites Coralville

A 95-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in Coralville, IA, is scheduled to open on Oct. 5. Located at 650 Coral Ridge Ave., the Fairfield Inn & Suites Coralville will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned and managed by Hawkeye Hotels. General Manager Brian Bowser leads the management team at the property. Features include a lobby lounge with stone hearth, a 24/7 Corner Market and signature farm table breakfast area.

SpringHill Suites Gainesville Haymarket

The SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Gainesville, VA, has opened. The 110-suite hotel, located at 7921 Gateway Promenade Pl., will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned and managed by IMG Hotels of Woodbridge, VA.

SureStay Hotel Ottawa

The SureStay Hotel Ottawa has opened its doors in Ottawa, KS. Located at 212 E. 23rd St., the hotel has 38 guestrooms and 16 suites, each complete with a minifridge and microwave. There is also an indoor swimming pool, business center, complimentary breakfast and free wireless internet throughout the hotel.
