NATIONAL REPORT—Hotels in development in the South include a Kimpton hotel in Atlanta’s Buckhead area, a JW Marriott on the West Coast of Florida and more.
Kimpton Sylvan Hotel
Set to open in early 2021 in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, Kimpton Sylvan Hotel is an adaptive-reuse of a 1950s-era residential property offering 216 guestrooms and suites, a living room lobby, a private pool and more than 4,000 sq. ft. of meetings and events space.
Kimpton amenities that will be available include morning coffee and tea service, evening social hour, the “Forgot It? We Got It!” program, complimentary bicycles, in-room yoga mats and a fitness center. F&B outlets include a ground-level restaurant featuring an elevated bar and outdoor patio, a ground-level garden bar and a ninth-floor rooftop lounge with indoor and outdoor spaces.
JW Marriott Clearwater Beach
Moss Construction has been awarded a contract for the first phase of construction of the JW Marriott Clearwater Beach in Clearwater, FL, and has already begun the deep foundations.
Developed by Dr. Kiran Patel, the 391,059-sq.-ft. property, a mixed-use development, will feature 167 hotel rooms and 31 furnished residential units with views of the Gulf of Mexico. Designed by Baker Barrios, the hotel’s amenities will include an elevated 11th floor swimming pool and bar, a spa, meeting rooms, ballrooms, a gym, an ocean front restaurant with private dining and approximately 250 ft. of private beach.
The Lodge 30A
The St. Joe Company and BRW MidGrove LLC have formed a joint venture to construct The Lodge 30A, a planned boutique hotel in Seagrove Beach, FL. Plans call for The Lodge 30A to be located in a planned mixed-use development on Scenic County Highway 30A adjacent to Greenway Station. It is expected to be completed in early 2022.
Current plans for The Lodge 30A call for a three-story hotel with amenities such as a fitness center and outdoor pool. The planned Greenway Station development abuts the 15,000-acre Point Washington State Forest. Once complete, The Lodge 30A will be managed by St. Joe Resort Operations LLC, a subsidiary of St. Joe.
Home2 Suites/Tru by Hilton in College Park, GA
Two new Hilton property hotel developments will open near the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, GA: Home2 Suites and Tru by Hilton, both with plans to open in February 2022. Construction is slated to begin this fall.
With Aziz Dhanani as principal developer, the Home2 Suites will offer 188 king and queen studio and one-bedroom suites and an outdoor grilling area and lounge, as well as meeting spaces, laundry and a joint workout facility shared with the other hotel. Making the brand’s Atlanta debut, the Tru hotel will offer a 2,857-sq.-ft. multipurpose lobby and three guestroom packages.
