BELLEVUE, WA–Hotels with same day rate offers posted on mobile devices are expected to see an increase in bookings during the Christmas-New Year’s holiday period.
According to data provided by Expedia, Inc., the collection of online travel agencies, nearly 70% of the mobile bookings made on its Hotels.com Web site will be made within one day of the stay. Given the potential travel delays during the holiday season, it’s in the best interest of hotels to increase their use of the mobile channel, according to Expedia president & CEO Dara Khosrowhahi. Compounding the risk of travel delay-related cancelations, the holidays are not typically a strong booking period for hotels in most markets to begin with.
Across all of Expedia, Inc.’s Web sites worldwide, which include Expedia.com and Hotwire.com in addition to Hotels.com, among others, the number of hotel bookings on the mobile channel was already up significantly year-over-year going into December, Khosrowshahi noted.
The average booking window for mobile customers going into December was 1.2 days with a length of stay of 1.1 nights and an ADR of $94.
