WASHINGTON D.C.? MeriStar Hotels and Resorts recently branded its first property with the Doral flag since acquiring the brand in January. MeriStar, the nation?s largest independent non-branded hotel management company, recently completed a $5 million renovation to the 285-room facility in Palm Springs, CA. Soon to be renamed the Doral Palm Springs Resort, MeriStar said the resort and golf facilities will represent the high standards associated with the Doral name. Located a short drive from the Palm Springs International Airport, the hotel itself is situated in the San Jacinto Mountains overlooking the PGA-rated, championship Desert Princess Country Club?s golf course. ?We are very pleased to add the Doral name to this first-class resort,? said John Plunket, MeriStar executive vp and Doral Division head. ?With access to 27 holes of world-class golf and the completion of an award winning, $5 million renovation, the new Doral Palm Springs Resort is a premier destination for travelers to southern California.? The renovation earned the 1998 Lodging Hospitality Presidential Suite Gold Medal Design Award. Hotel amenities at the resort include an exercise room, swimming pool, two spas, 18,000 square feet of meeting space, the Sunflower Grill and the Oasis Lounge. In addition, guests will have special privileges at the Desert Princess Country Club and soon will be able to play two new golf courses being developed by OB Sports, a high-end golf development company. That will allow guests to access 63 holes of continuous golf. Other sporting and leisure amenities include 10 tennis courts and two racquetball courts. All guest rooms contain a patio or balcony with a mountain, lake, or golf course view and are equipped with in-room safes, refrigerators, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards. The hotel also offers 13 suites and 50 condominiums located throughout the grounds which have either one, two or three bedrooms each. ?We will continue to be highly selective in our choice of properties for the Doral brand,? Plunket said. ?Candidates must offer the highest quality conference and leisure facilities to warrant the Doral logo, and the Doral Palm Springs Resort does just that. With enough meeting space for small and large gatherings, as well as access to a premium golf facility, this property had all the necessary components for a Doral resort.? MeriStar Hotels and Resorts leases or manages 215 hotels with 45,092 rooms in 33 states, the District of Columbia, Canada and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
