INTERNATIONAL REPORT—In cities across the globe, several hotels are opening or in the works. Kimpton expands to Japan; Mandarin Oriental comes to the Caribbean; Kempinski opens first in Bali; Edition opens in the Mediterranean; plus two new-builds are underway in China.

IHG Expands in Asia with Kimpton Tokyo Shinjuku

Kimpton Tokyo Shinjuku by IHG and Tsukada Global Holdings Inc. is set to open in 2020. The 162-room hotel will have dining and amenities, with three meeting spaces that accommodate up to 300 people, a wellness studio and a multifunction chapel. Japan is the newest market for the Kimpton brand, continuing the recent growth trajectory with signings in Greater China and Southeast Asia, as well as the 2017 opening of Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam.

The Caribbean Gets its First Mandarin Oriental

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s first property in the Caribbean has made its debut in St. Vincent and The Grenadines. Mandarin Oriental, Canouan is located on Godahl Beach, which is protected by the area’s largest natural living coral reef. The hotel has been presented with its own hallmark fan to represent the unique heritage of the property. Pink flowers pay homage to the resort’s signature color, while turquoise floral stems and sequined embellishments honor the aquamarine waters and sea that surround the resort.

Kempinski Plans for First Hotel in Bali, Indonesia

Kempinski will open The Apurva Kempinski Bali in the fourth quarter of this year. The opening marks the first resort on the island and its second hotel in Indonesia. Set in southern Bali, the hotel has 475 guestrooms, along with suites and villas, five dining venues and a cigar and shisha lounge. Facilities include a spa and fitness center, swimming pool, kids pool and a family club. There’s also a 11,581-sq-ft. ballroom, along with meeting rooms, The Apurva beachfront wedding chapel and a 23,680-sq.-ft. oceanfront lawn for outdoor events.

Edition Opens in Bodrum, Turkey

Hotelier Ian Schrager, in partnership with Marriott International, brings forth The Bodrum Edition, within the Yalikavak bay of the Turkish Riviera. The hotel has 102 guestrooms, along with bungalows with private pools and four-bedroom private villas with pools. In addition, the property has lounge bars, cocktail areas, a night club as well as two restaurants. The hotel also has more than 4,000 sq. ft. of both indoor and outdoor meeting and event space including meeting studios and a ballroom for events, parties and weddings.

Hotel Vic Opens in North Point Area of Hong Kong

Hotel Vic has opened in Hong Kong. The newly built twin-tower hotel has 671 guestrooms and suites, a 24-hour gym, rooftop outdoor swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms. Hotel Vic will also have three signature restaurants. In addition, Hotel Vic is the first hotel in Hong Kong to provide a key card kiosk, so that guests can access their room key with a QR code sent to them following online check-in prior to their arrival, according to the company.

Anantara Hotels and Resorts to Develop in China’s Chengdu Qingyang District

Anantara Hotels and Resorts has plans to diversify its portfolio in China by launching the first luxury global hotel brand in the Qingyang District of Chengdu with the opening of Anantara Jinsha Chengdu Hotel as part of the integrated Essence Chengdu project, developed by Chengdu Tai Hang Rui Hong Real Estate Co. Ltd. It is scheduled to open in 2021.
Accommodations will include 150 guestrooms and suites, an all-day dining restaurant and specialty restaurant, lobby lounge and bar/tea lounge, a gym and fitness facilities, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, a spa, children’s club, additional recreational and leisure facilities along with banqueting and meeting facilities.
