UPDATED: Hotel Business’ Jay Schultz Passes Away

ISLANDIA, NY—It is with great sadness that ICD Publications announces the passing of James (Jay) Schultz, SVP, Hospitality Group, which includes the Hotel Business and InspireDesign media brands. Schultz had been battling complications from a long illness, and passed away on August 1, 2018. He was 54.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, and his son, Jamie, among other beloved family members.

“Jay was not only my professional mentor, but a personal friend,” said Publisher Allen Rolleri. “His leadership and salesmanship—and his ability to forge strong, life-long relationships within our industry—were unparalleled, and qualities that made him not only a role model to me, but to so many lives he touched in our company and the hotel industry. He has left tremendous shoes to fill, and his loss leaves a tremendous hole in all of our hearts. I will strive every day, as leader of this group, to make him proud and honor his legacy.”

“Jay’s contributions to Hotel Business—and to the industry as a whole—are countless,” said Editor Christina Trauthwein. “His knowledge and understanding of—and history about—the hospitality market was deep and peerless. His desire to share it with anyone and everyone who would listen was legendary. And his ability to recall it all, impressive. Jay was truly beloved by the industry and by his ICD family, and will be dearly missed by us all.”

Schultz began his Hotel Business career in 1992 when he joined ICD Publications as a sales manager, eventually becoming publisher. After taking a position as publisher of Hospitality Design at Nielsen Business Media in 2006, Schultz returned to ICD in 2007 to lead the Hotel Group as SVP. Schultz is a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany.
