In Mexico, Four Seasons Fuses Heritage and Indigenous Practices to Restore Wellness

PUNTA MITA, MEXICO—The Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita has recently tapped Luis Molina to lead the new health and wellness programming at Apuane Spa, which is situated on this 400-acre hideaway on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit.

Molina brings more than 20 years of international spa experience to his position as spa director at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita. Previously, he held various roles at world-class hospitality brands including Ananda in the Himalayas and Rosewood in Abu Dhabi. Most recently, he worked as spa director for Azulik Resort and Spa in the Mayan Riviera.

Born in Spain, Molina will fuse his Spanish heritage with ingredients and practices indigenous to the Riviera Nayarit to enhance Apuane Spa’s treatment menu and amenities.

In a Q&A with Hotel Business, Molina outlines how he will create a place to inspire guests to relax, restore and revitalize:

What is your wellness philosophy and how do you integrate it into your work at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita?

I believe in developing the uniqueness of each place through an excellent service. In Four Seasons Punta Mita, we want to make a multi-sensorial experience for all guests while using organic products.

How do you define wellness in terms of the spa experience?

I define wellness as the overall state of being aware of feelings experienced during a treatment or class at a specific moment.

What attracted you to the brand?

What led me here was the brand’s continued focus on exceeding guest expectations through connecting and intuitive service.

With your varied background and expertise, what do you hope to bring to this role?

I wish to bring the possibility of developing and enhancing the treatments of Nayarit, Mexico, and industry global trends aimed to a complete spa and fitness guest experience.

Please share some new initiatives happening under your direction.

At the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, we offer Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Kung Fu classes; Apuane Ritual in the beach with guests covered with organic mud and meditation class; and a Chakra Balancing Ritual with a scrub, massage and sound healing technique on your chakras for a body, emotional and spiritual relaxation.

How will you infuse new energy into the program?

It starts with team support. They are very creative and enjoy contributing new ideas to enhance guests’ experience.
