NATIONAL REPORT—The heartland of the U.S. is seeing new hotel openings, including a Hyatt Place as part of a newly established hotel district in Grand Rapids, MI. Here’s a look:
Hyatt Place Downtown Grand Rapids Opens
Architecture and engineering firm Ghafari Associates has completed the Hyatt Place Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids, MI.
The new hotel is managed by local hotel management group AHC+ Hospitality and is part of the newly established hotel district, a three-block radius that includes hotels, restaurants and local businesses.
Ghafari led the design of the 12-story, 160-room hotel, in conjunction with the Warner Building, an adjacent 15-story office tower that shares the site. After three years of planning, and exploring multiple design options, both the Hyatt Place and the Warner Building broke ground in June 2017. Construction began with the office tower, followed closely by hotel construction. The hotel design deviates from the typical Hyatt Place prototype. The design incorporates core elements of typical guestroom finishes and amenities with a custom urban layout designed to reflect elements and imagery of the area and downtown Grand Rapids.
Fairfield By Marriott Debuts in Shawnee, KS
The 78-room Fairfield by Marriott in Shawnee, KS, opened recently.
The Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Shawnee Kansas City operates as a Marriott franchise, and is owned and managed by Premier Hotels of Kansas City, KS. It is located near Legends Outlets at Kansas City, Kansas Speedway, Hollywood Casino, Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium.

Shakopee, MN, Welcomes New Fairfield By Marriott
The 129-room Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Minneapolis Shakopee recently opened. It operates as a Marriott franchise, and is owned by Hawkeye Hotels and JR Hospitality, and managed by Hawkeye Hotels of Coralville, IA.
The hotel is located near Canterbury Park, Valley Fair Amusement Park and Mystic Lake Casino.

Lake Geneva, WI Gets First Marriott-branded Property
The 92-room Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Lake Geneva recently opened and operates as a Marriott franchise, managed by First Hospitality of Chicago.
The hotel is located near the Lake Geneva Canopy Tours, Safari Lake Geneva and the Highlands Golf Course at Grand Geneva. Additional hotel amenities include an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, valet laundry service, complimentary WiFi, as well as fax and copy services.
SpringHill Suites Opens in Wixom, MI
The 99-suite SpringHill Suites Detroit/Wixom hotel recently opened and is owned and managed by Namou Hotel Group of Madison Heights, MI.
The hotel is located 28 miles from Detroit Metro Airport and 30 minutes from downtown Detroit. It is also near Suburban Collections Showplace, Total Sports Complex and Twelve Oaks Mall.
The hotel provides business services, complimentary WiFi, same-day dry cleaning, guest laundry facilities, a 24/7 Market, an indoor swimming pool, an outdoor fire pit, a fitness center and 711 sq. ft. of meeting space to accommodate functions of up to 46 people.
