Hotels Break Ground in Texas and Massachusetts

NATIONAL REPORT—Two hotels have broken ground in Texas, while Roedel Companies has put shovels in the dirt on its second hotel project in Massachusetts this year.

Loews Hotels, The Cordish Companies and Texas Rangers to Open $150M Flagship

Loews Hotels & Co, The Cordish Companies and Texas Rangers officially broke ground on the $150-million flagship Live! by Loews – Arlington, TX hotel and convention center. Executives from the development team were joined by Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams, former Texas Rangers catcher Ivan Rodriguez, Arlington City Council and community and business leaders to recognize and celebrate this milestone.

With the groundbreaking, more than $1.25 billion of new development is now under construction in the Arlington Entertainment District including Texas Live! and the Rangers new ballpark. Together, these projects are part of a greater $4-billion vision for the Entertainment District that also includes the preservation of Globe Life Park. Texas Live!, anchored by Live! by Loews – Arlington, TX, is projected to significantly exceed $100 million per year in economic output to the City of Arlington and Tarrant County, and more than $2 billion in direct and indirect salaries during its first 40 years, as well as create approximately 3,025 new jobs for local and regional residents.

Live! by Loews – Arlington, TX will be the first hotel to carry the Live! by Loews name when it opens in 2019. The 14-story tall, 302-room hotel will feature spaces for events and entertainment including tower terrace, a central gathering place; the event lawn; an outdoor infinity edge pool; a rooftop terrace private event space; the two-story, 35,000-sq.-ft. Grand Event Center; and Revolver Brewing Brewery, Bar and Tasting Room.

The hotel will be constructed by a joint-venture partnership of Manhattan Construction Company and Arlington-based Con-Real. Together, the joint-venture will be responsible for the construction of the dining, entertainment, hotel and convention facilities of Texas Live! and Live! by Loews – Arlington, TX. HKS Architects, Mycoskie+Mcinnis+Associates, Purdy-McGuire and McLaren Engineering Group have been tapped to lead architecture and interior design, civil engineering, mechanical/electrical engineering, and structural engineering, respectively.

Moody National Companies Breaks Ground on Residence Inn by Marriott

Moody National Companies has commenced construction on the Residence Inn by Marriott in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. The site of the 16-story, 182-room hotel is close to the Texas Medical Center and NRG Stadium. The Residence Inn will include a parking garage along with four private meeting spaces totaling 5,000 sq. ft. Its opening is scheduled for early 2019.

Moody selected Arch-Con for its general contractor, and Mitchell Carlson Stone Architects designed the building. Moody National Hospitality Management, which has experience in the Medical Center market, will manage ongoing operations of the hotel. Within the Texas Medical Center submarket, Moody has managed several hotels including the Residence Inn by Marriott, the Courtyard by Marriott, the SpringHill Suites by Marriott, the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton and the Moody Manor.

Roedel Companies Launches HGI Canton

Roedel Companies continues to expand with the groundbreaking of the Hilton Garden Inn in Canton, MA. The ceremonial groundbreaking was organized by Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company, which is leasing the land to Roedel Companies to develop the hotel. Howard Neff, chief investment officer of Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company, presided over the event and was joined by members of Roedel Companies, including Business Development Officer David W. Roedel.

This is the second property that Roedel Companies has broken ground on in Massachusetts in the last six months. In July, the New Hampshire-based hotelier broke ground on its Homewood Suites by Hilton at Riverbridge in Berlin. The two properties bring the number of hotels Roedel Companies owns, operates or manages to 13 throughout the Northeast.

The 138-room HGI Canton is located on a three-acre land parcel in an office campus setting that includes Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company, Dunkin’ Brands and Computershare, among other companies. The hotel will offer 3,500 sq. ft. of meeting space, while adding an upscale bar-centric restaurant to the area. The hotel will also have a fully automated boardroom and additional conference room space, along with amenities such as ergonomic desk chairs, complimentary WiFi, fitness center and 24-hour business center.

Site work has started and construction will begin in the spring. ROK Builders, an affiliate of Roedel Companies, is managing the construction of the hotel, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2019.
