INTERNATIONAL REPORT—What’s new in the world of wellness? These hospitality companies are opening wellness retreats and elevating their training programs and offerings, delivering enhanced well-being to both guests and employees:

Four Seasons, Sensei Partner for Hawaiian Wellness Property

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and Sensei, the well-being company founded by Larry Ellison and Dr. David Agus, have partnered to develop Four Seasons Hotel Lanai at Koele, A Sensei Retreat, scheduled to open November 1 in Lanai, HI. Unique to the Hawaiian market and a Four Seasons first, the all-inclusive hotel will focus exclusively on wellness retreats, offering a comprehensive and fully customizable program tailored to individual needs. Previously known as the Lodge at Koele and now fully transformed by Todd-Avery Lenahan of Tal-Studio, the hotel includes a Great Room, Sensei by Nobu restaurant, spa and wellness facilities including 10 private spa hale, and 96 guestrooms and suites.

Marriott International Expands Well-being Certification Program

Marriott International has revealed the rebranding and digital expansion of its Healthy Hotel Certification program with the launch of TakeCare Certification, which recognizes organizations of all types for creating an environment that supports holistic well-being and growth. TakeCare is Marriott’s approach to promoting employee well-being. The certification, which was previously available only to Marriott managed properties, is now available to all external organizations, including schools, volunteer organizations, nonprofits, hospitals, offices, teams and communities. TakeCare Certification features new application questions and recognizes organizations with silver, gold, platinum and titanium awards.

Based on findings from the 2018 certification process:

  • 88% of Marriott-managed properties support physical activity during work hours by hosting walking breaks or by sponsoring “fitness breaks.”
  • More than half of Marriott managed properties have a designated private meditation/prayer/relaxation room or space available for all associates.

Goco Hospitality Creates Wellness Spa for Four Seasons Bangkok

A new level of wellness luxury is coming to Bangkok in collaboration with Goco Hospitality at the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, which will begin accepting reservations for guest arrivals starting in February 2020. The spa will feature nine single and double treatment rooms, one spa suite with thermal facilities, a private garden and bathing areas, a beauty salon, male barber, gender-specific heat and water experiences along with a gym and a mind and body studio. The spa also includes an Advanced Beauty Room, a place where science meets natural wellness through a range of technologically advanced slimming and anti-aging treatments for men and women.
