BETHESDA, MD—Marriott International’s Autograph Collection has opened the Hi-Lo Hotel in Portland, OR. Designed by Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Design Associates, Arris Studio Architects, and Portland-based groups OMFGC and Jessica Helgerson Interior Design, the property embraces the ethos of the Pacific Northwest.
Built in 1910, the Oregon Pioneer Building—originally named The Railway Express Building—was the city’s first concrete building, which became known as Project Cinderella when it was revived in 1962, serving as a catalyst to restore historic buildings in downtown.
The design concept accentuates the aesthetic of the building. The notion of mixing the high and the low is imbued into every facet of the hotel, creating a sense of warmth and liveliness, according to the company. Located in the heart of downtown Portland, each of the 120 guestrooms and suites are outfitted with modern organic furnishings and local handcrafted bathroom amenities by Maak Lab, featuring a custom scent designed exclusively for Hi-Lo Hotel.
F&B options include the Lo Bar for cocktails and Alto-Bajo for dining on a menu comprised of Mexican cuisine.
Other amenities include complimentary WiFi, mobile check-in, in-room entertainment systems outfitted with Netflix and a variety of apps, daily newspaper delivery, and a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness center. It is also a pet-friendly hotel with pet-centric amenities through a partnership with a local dog bakery.
