Hampton Inn Finds Home in Historic Chicago Building

CHICAGO—The Hampton Inn by Hilton Chicago Downtown/N Loop/Michigan Ave—owned by Integrated Motor Club LLC, an affiliate of Murphy Asset Management (MAM), and managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts—has opened here.

Formerly the Art Deco Chicago Motor Club building, the LEED-certified hotel is located at 68 East Wacker Pl., one block south of the Chicago River. The 143-room property is close to popular area attractions including the Magnificent Mile, Lake Michigan’s beaches, Millennium Park, Shedd Aquarium and Navy Pier.

“It is exciting to bring our award-winning Hamptonality to this historic building, further diversifying the Hampton by Hilton family of over 2,000 properties,” said Phil Cordell, global head for focused service and Hampton by Hilton brand management for Hilton Worldwide. “This freshly renovated Art Deco property is a seamless marriage between Hampton by Hilton’s signature modernity and Chicago’s past.”

Paying homage to the landmark’s contribution to car culture in the U.S., according to the hotel, a significant amount of the renovation budget has been dedicated to preserving the 33-ft.-high lobby featuring a 29-ft. mural of popular road destinations, designed by John Warner Norton. The space includes two balconies on the mezzanine level overlooking the lobby, one of which has a 1928 Ford Model A on display as a tribute to the history of the building. Jack’s Place, a 67-seat cocktail bar, is located on the first floor, making the hotel one of only a few Hampton Inn by Hilton hotels nationally to have a lobby bar.

“Returning the historic Chicago Motor Club Building to its original, exquisite form was extremely important to us,” said John T. Standing 17-stories high, Hampton Inn by Hilton Chicago Downtown/N Loop/Michigan Ave offers amenities such as free WiFi; a 24-hour business center with complimentary printing; a 624-sq.-ft. meeting space that can accommodate up to 74 people; and a fitness center featuring state-of-the-art cardio equipment.

Guestrooms are equipped with the brand’s signature Clean and Fresh Hampton bed, a 42-in. LCD TV, an iron with ironing board and a coffeemaker.
