NATIONAL REPORT—Downtown Dallas will receive its first dual-branded hotel with the opening this week of a 128-room AC Hotel by Marriott and a 121-room Residence Inn by Marriott by NewcrestImage.
The property is the first AC Hotel in Texas and the first AC Hotel anywhere that brings together two Marriott brands, according to the company.
“We have dramatically renovated and given vibrant new life to the historic Mercantile Commerce Building, which originally opened in 1956 and has been vacant for 25 years,” explained Mehul Patel, chairman of NewcrestImage. “By moving from retired to relevant, this building will add significant momentum to the revitalization of downtown Dallas.”
The reimagined property features the AC Hotel lobby and lounge on the first floor, with guestrooms on floors three through 10, while the Residence Inn lobby is on the second floor, with guestrooms on floors 11 through 21.
The two hotels have separate lobbies, lounges, dining areas, and business centers, while sharing a bar, fitness center, and back-of-the-house space. The properties also share the same management, sales and housekeeping teams, led by General Manager Kellie Adams, a 21-year veteran of the hospitality industry.
A 10-floor parking garage, which is scheduled to open in 2018 behind the building, will include an indoor swimming pool to serve the two new hotels as well as NewcrestImage’s Hampton Inn & Suites located immediately adjacent.
Canopy by Hilton Washington DC, The Wharf
Today, Canopy by Hilton, Hilton’s lifestyle hotel brand, Hoffman-Madison Waterfront and Concord Hospitality Enterprises revealed the first look inside the brand’s first North American property, Canopy by Hilton Washington DC, The Wharf. Set on the Potomac River, The Wharf is home to some of DC’s most anticipated new restaurants, year-round entertainment and waterfront accommodations, according to the company.
The property’s 175 guestrooms and rooftop bar and lounge, Whiskey Charlie, are part of Hoffman-Madison Waterfront’s $2.5-billion, mixed-use waterfront neighborhood in Southwest Washington, DC. The new hotel is inspired and influenced by its local surroundings.
Canopy by Hilton Washington DC, The Wharf offers tiered variations of 175 rooms with riverfront or city views. The interiors include nautical touches inspired by the riverfront. There are also contemporary bathrooms with illuminated mirrors and upgraded showers. Other amenities include 55-in. TVs, refrigerated drawers, Nespresso machines and ample places to charge devices.
Home2 Suites by Hilton Joliet Plainfield
Home2 Suites by Hilton Joliet Plainfield has opened in Joliet, IL, bringing the brand one step closer to its 200th property milestone. The hotel has 115 suites and a range of value, tech-focused and eco-conscious amenities.
Managed by Raymond Management Company, the all-suite hotel has fully equipped kitchens and modular furniture. There is also complimentary internet, communal spaces, and trademark Home2 Suites amenities such as Spin2 Cycle, a combined laundry and fitness area; Home2 MKT for grab-and-go items; and the Inspired Table, a complimentary daily breakfast.
