EVEN Hotels grows footprint as wellness trends upward

EVEN Hotels, created by IHG Hotels & Resorts with wellness at its core, continues to grow with 16 hotels now open and more than 30 properties in the global development pipeline.

Wellness is likely to become a focus for travelers this year. According to a recently released report from the Global Wellness Summit, 2021 is expected to be the year of the “travel reset,” where travelers get back on the road and go “slower, nearer and more mindfully,” following the impact of COVID-19. Additionally, the organization predicts that all travel may become wellness travel as the work and personal lives of millions of Americans merged in 2020, extending the average workday by nearly an hour in many large cities. As a result, many employers are further emphasizing self-care for employees, beginning with vacations.

Another key travel trend highlighted by the Global Wellness Summit report is that of travelers embracing the healing power of nature. This trend got a boost during the pandemic and will likely continue through 2021 as travelers continue to practice social distancing by choosing outdoor activities.

“When we created the EVEN brand, we recognized that health and wellness was more than a trend—it was a sustainable, long-term demand from business and leisure travelers,” said Julienne Smith, SVP, development, IHG. “Wellness has taken centerstage for millions of Americans after 2020 and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. As travel continues to come back, we expect this segment will realize its full potential as travelers search for hotels that allow them to maintain their wellness routine while on the road.”
