Entrepreneur Dean White Dead at 93

MERRILLVILLE, IN—Billionaire Dean White, the entrepreneur father of Bruce W. White, chairman/CEO of White Lodging Services, Inc., died Sept. 14. He was 93.

Following in his father George’s footsteps, White worked at the family’s outdoor sign company, ultimately becoming the president of White Advertising Co.

He later expanded into a variety of businesses that included commercial real estate development as well as hospitality projects, including a Radisson Hotel built here in 1969. Thirty-seven years later, 100 hotels were sold to Robert L. Johnson’s investment company [now RLJ Lodging Trust]for $1.7 billion by White Lodging Services, which was founded by White’s son, Bruce.

White was most well-known in Northwest Indiana for running Whiteco Industries and his philanthropic contributions.
