DENVER, CO—DLR Group has unveiled its new renovation design for the Curtis Hotel here, a themed experience that builds on the hotel’s named floors, including One Hit Wonder, Sci-Fi and Big Hair.
DLR Group designers transformed 13 corner rooms and three luxury suites into hyper-themed spaces based on iconic and beloved movies, television shows or musicians. Upgraded food and beverage options that complement the room theme are also offered. For example, guests can stay in a Talladega Nights-themed room and order a nacho cheese plate, a Jimmy Buffet-inspired space with a crafted cocktail, or the Rolling Stones Suite, which has a pair of lips lounge chairs and psychedelic living room.
According to the design firm, the renovation aims to achieve a balance between modern appeal for guests and the hotel’s rooted personality by careful use of the retro design themes, patterns, colorations and scale. The Curtis’ iconic and branded orange color is threaded throughout the hotel.
“The already playful nature of the themed floors in the hotel takes you back to your childhood in a sophisticated way. We built upon that concept by enhancing the themes and energizing public spaces with more light, color and texture,” stated DLR Group Principal Angela Castleton. “Our design closed a gap between the Curtis Hotel’s existing unique personality in the lobby and public spaces with the main guestrooms, hyper-themed guestrooms and suites.”
In addition to the corner rooms and suite upgrades, the hotel’s 336 guestrooms were renovated to remedy recent negative feedback regarding guestroom functions. This includes new custom carpet, custom seating, wallcoverings, draperies, custom casework, lighting and curated art.
The renovation also includes 6,000 sq. ft. of new indoor and outdoor event and meeting space, banquet seating for 250 guests and a large, west-facing outdoor terrace on the third floor.
