Council To Vote On Virginia Hotel Project

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA The City Council here will vote on a resolution regarding a proposed hotel project at 31st Street. The resolution, which is expected to pass, is the councils first official response to an advisory referendum held three months ago, in which voters said they opposed the deal.

Developers, Bruce Thompson and Edmund Ruffin, intend to build a four-star hotel, shops, a public park and a parking deck on Atlantic Avenue at 31st Street. Voters are asking the council to cancel the development, and instead build a large park on the valuable Oceanfront real estate. (8/23/00)
