Blue Waters creates sustainable brand

ANTIGUA—Blue Waters Resort & Spa, located here, has launched a new bath amenity brand, Neem Avenue, replacing all of its single-use plastic bath amenities resort-wide.

The brand is organic and inspired by the natural scents and ingredients of the Caribbean. The products include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and a new paper-wrapped seaweed and sage hand soap.

The Neem Avenue name comes from the Neem tree, which is commonly found in the Caribbean, said Gary Randall, managing director of Blue Waters Resort & Spa.

Each Neem Avenue product will be in a reusable 500-ml. biopolymer bottle with a recyclable pump cap, eliminating waste from single-use miniatures. The products utilize local ingredients and plants like neroli, grapefruit, clary sage, magnolia and sweet orange, free of harmful chemicals, byproducts and allergens.

“At Blue Waters, we are intent on protecting the island’s precious oceans and wildlife, and our sustainability efforts are a major step forward in our goal to become completely plastic-free in the near future,” Randall said.

According to Randall, one of the biggest challenges when it comes to in-room amenities is to make it convenient for guests.

The resort expects that in the span of one year, Blue Waters will eliminate the consumption of approximately 55,000 single-use miniatures by using the Neem Avenue bottles resort-wide.
