AAHOA Supports Passage of First Step Act

ATLANTA— Following passage of the First Step Act of 2018, legislation that would initiate significant reforms to the federal criminal justice system, AAHOA President/CEO Chip Rogers issued the following statement:

“America’s hoteliers applaud the passage of the First Step Act,” said Rogers, who will be leaving the organization to become president/CEO of AHLA. “This bipartisan legislation can serve as a model for reforming America’s criminal justice system. The provisions that encourage job training and recidivism reduction programs are key to helping returned citizens gain the footing they need to become contributing members of society. A good, stable job is incredibly important, for it can provide security, direction and a sense of purpose. Helping inmates develop the skills to land jobs and, potentially, careers upon their release is key to reducing recidivism. AAHOA looks forward to President Trump signing the First Step Act into law.”
