A Quintet of Renovations Across the U.S.

NATIONAL REPORT—Newly renovated hotels in the U.S. from coast to coast include the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, the Omni Las Colinas Hotel and more.

Four Seasons Hotel Chicago
The 347-room Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, steps from the Magnificent Mile and Michigan Avenue shopping district, has finished a multimillion-dollar renovation that included a reconceptualized lobby and social lounge; a new restaurant and bar; newly designed specialty suites and apartments; and enhanced event spaces.

The design by Rottet Studio features a lighter color palette and an open floor plan in the redesigned lobby, which includes a new day bar and a social lounge with varied seating areas.

San Francisco-based design firm BAMO redesigned the one- and two-bedroom suites and two- and three-bedroom apartment units. The second phase renovation of the suites and apartments will feature residentially inspired palettes and decor. The hotel’s more than 23,000 sq. ft. of event space, including the Grand Ballroom, will be redesigned with new decor and furnishings.

Omni Las Colinas Hotel
Omni Las Colinas Hotel in Irving, TX, formerly Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas, has completed a $13 million renovation to various common space amenities including The Lakehouse Waterfront Lounge, a new resort-style poolscape and lounge area and three new dining concepts, LRH Restaurant & Bar; Flossie’s; and Over the Counter.

The Lakehouse Waterfront Lounge & Pool Deck features a resort-style pool with 161 chaise lounge chairs, daybeds, private cabanas, a secret garden, multiple yard games and tree swings, as well as a  new private 10,700-sq.-ft. outdoor event space.

Annapolis Waterfront Hotel
The Annapolis Waterfront Hotel in Annapolis, MD, a member of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection, has completed a comprehensive, multimillion-dollar renovation, including the exterior, the 150 guestrooms and the meetings and event spaces.

The renovation of the only hotel in the area located on the water was designed by Washington-based firm Baskervill using ocean hues of blues, grays and tans, as well as natural materials in furniture and accessories throughout the rooms and public areas. The design of  each of the 150 guestrooms and the signature Waterfront Harbor Suite was inspired by elements of a sailboat, with warm tones and textures derived from the sailboat cabins in the hull of a vintage seafaring vessel.

Garden Street Inn
Garden Street Inn, a historic Victorian Mansion located in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo and the most recent hotel acquisition by Kirkwood Collection, has been fully renovated.

The property’s redesign was led by Michelle McClory, design director for Kirkwood Collection. The new design is a modern take on the classic Victorian aesthetic with inspiration from nature, according to Kirkwood Collection.

Inspiration for the design was derived from old Victorian garden courtyards, which incorporated elements of art, stone, metal, water, winding foliage and dining all into one outdoor space. The design team added three large scale arched windowpane mirrors to serve as a focal point.

The reopening of the hotel is scheduled for Sept. 4.

Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles LAX/Century Blvd
Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles LAX/Century Blvd has completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of its public areas and 190 guestrooms, and has added two new social-distancing salons.

The new 235-sq.-ft. salons are fully enclosed and provide versatile layouts for both business and leisure travelers. Located at the entrance to the lobby, the salons are framed with glass doors and can be configured as a mini-lounge for watching TV or conferencing with colleagues. Initial plans for the two salons called for meeting rooms accommodating 10 guests each.

New design elements in guestrooms include custom artwork, including an airplane panorama and its contrail; sofa sleepers with double-stacked cushions; flexible desk workstations; new blackout shades, draperies, carpet and wallpaper; and modern light fixtures. Three new guestrooms were also added on the lobby level.
