A Few Brands Debut Abroad, More Global Openings

INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Hotels are open or are currently in the works in cities across the globe, embracing local attractions and guest amenities. Here’s a look at six:

Bellagio Goes International 

Suning Real Estate—a subsidiary of China’s Suning Holdings Group—and MGM will launch a new Bellagio Shanghai on June 8, the first international hotel to follow the Bellagio Towers of Las Vegas.

Located on the banks of the Suzhou River, the Bellagio Shanghai has views of the Pudong skyline, the Bund’s waterfront promenade and the Lujiazui financial district. The hotel also has function, entertaining and meeting space, plus a spa and fitness center.

Hyatt Centric to Open in Ireland

Plans to open the first Hyatt property in Ireland, Hyatt Centric The Liberties Dublin, are in motion. A Hyatt affiliate has entered into a franchise agreement for a Hyatt Centric hotel in Dublin with Realmside Ltd., an affiliate of Hodson Bay Group, an Irish hotel and property group. The 234-room hotel will be managed by Hodson Bay Group Management Ltd. and is expected to open in May 2019.

The hotel will be situated in The Liberties, close to attractions including St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle and Vicar St.

Hyatt Centric The Liberties Dublin will be joining Hyatt Centric La Rosière in France; Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid in Spain; and Hyatt Centric Levent Istanbul in Turkey—all of which opened in 2017. Hyatt Centric Yalikavak Bodrum in Turkey is planned to open in summer 2019.

Alila Hotels & Resorts Opens First Property in Malaysia

The 143-room Alila Bangsar has opened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The hotel occupies the top floors of a mixed-use development known as The Establishment. The hotel also has a butler service in the Alila Living Room located on every guestroom floor, a pool and French restaurant.

Alila Bangsar has several sustainability initiatives that have been implemented across the hotel, such as the IPTV technology that allows guests to access destination and facilities information on their TV, and the creation of nature-friendly E-Zones for guests, limiting the use of paper. A press reader app will be available, which will allow access to any magazine and newspaper directly from a mobile phone or tablet, as well as e-check-in via an iPad and paperless invoicing.

Mandarin Hotel Group Expands to Vietnam

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will manage a new hotel in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, scheduled to open in 2020. The hotel will have 227 guestrooms and suites, six restaurants and bars, meeting and banquet spaces, a fitness center, a Spa at Mandarin Oriental and an outdoor swimming pool.

The property, which will be called Mandarin Oriental, Saigon, will form part of Union Square Saigon, a commercial building in the city that is currently under renovation. The hotel will be situated on the upper floors of this mixed-use complex, which will also house a variety of international retail outlets. The project owner is Union Square Company Limited.

Kempinski Comes to Singapore

Kempinski Hotels plans to open The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore at Capitol Singapore, owned and managed by Singapore-based Perennial Real Estate Holdings Limited. Comprising three heritage buildings, Capitol Singapore houses shopping and dining destination Capitol Piazza, the Capitol Theatre, the Eden Residences Capitol and the upcoming The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore. The hotel is housed in the restored Capitol Building and Stamford House, with 157 guestrooms and suites.

The full range of services at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore will be made available over the course of several phases toward the end of this year, starting with the hotel opening in September.

The addition of The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore to the Kempinski portfolio is part of the company’s continued expansion into Asia, alongside upcoming The Apurva Kempinski Bali.

Viceroy Opens Los Cabos Location

Los Angeles-based Viceroy Hotel Group marks its 15th property worldwide with the opening of Viceroy Los Cabos. Viceroy Los Cabos is located in San José del Cabo on the coast of Baja California. This opening is a collaboration with Rodina Group. The 194-room, 50-residence property includes a new beachfront pool and bar, lobby, dining venues and fitness center. There’s also a cinema room and meeting and event spaces.

Expanding its global footprint into San José del Cabo, Viceroy has grown its Mexico presence where it currently operates Viceroy Riviera Maya, a resort in Playa del Carmen. The opening of Viceroy Los Cabos is part of the brand’s forthcoming openings in Serbia, Argentina, Panama, Portugal and Vietnam.

New Jumeirah Resort Comes to Bahrain

Jumeirah Al Sahel Resort & Spa in Bahrain is set to launch by the end of 2019 in collaboration with GM Architects. The resort will offer accommodations and entertainment options for guests, family-style restaurants, a cinema, teen room, kids club, conference centers and spa facilities.

New Dubai Hotel Brings Local Flavor

Form Hotel Dubai has opened its flagship property in Dubai’s cultural village in the Al Jadaf neighborhood, the newest addition to the Design Hotels collection. The hotel is close to Dubai International Airport, Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa and Dubai’s design and financial districts.

The 136-room property has dining options featuring local flavors, a gym, pool and concept boutique by Form, the in-house retailer, offering locally sourced items.
