Four Openings to Know in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS—The Minneapolis area has added a few new hotels to its roster. Here’s a look at what’s opened—or is about to open—in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Canopy Minneapolis Mill District

Canopy by Hilton, in collaboration with Sherman Associates and DLR Group, has opened its first hotel in Minnesota, Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis Mill District. Located in East Town, the 183-room hotel is part of a large mixed-use development that includes residential and retail components and offers a pedestrian-friendly urban framework along Chicago Ave. from the Mississippi River to the Downtown East development.

Previously home to the Advance Thresher/Emerson-Newton Implement Company, the 1900s building has been rejuvenated as a hotel. The property offers guests access to the Guthrie Theater, Mill City Museum and the new U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. Hotel guests are also within steps to the temperature-controlled Skyway system and the light rail, making a quick ride to the Mall of America, University of Minnesota campus, downtown St. Paul and other popular areas.

Canopy Minneapolis Mill District offers 183 rooms with Serta mattresses, digital check-in, heated bathroom floors, Canopy’s signature “uncloseted” closet, a 55-in. TV, a Nespresso machine, generous workspace and complimentary Wi-Fi.

The hotel’s exterior combines brick with terra-cotta detailing, helping to clearly define the building’s upper and lower levels. The interior consists of heavy timber construction, exposed wood ceilings, and a central atrium that joins the two structures together, filling the space with daylight.

Canopy Minneapolis Mill District offers a culinary experience including UMBRA Bites & Pours; Additionally, guests can relax with a cup of coffee or enjoy a complimentary Evening Tasting served in Canopy Central each evening, featuring locally sourced brews, wines and spirits.

There is also a 24-hour fitness center and more than 6,000 sq. ft. of flexible, glass-enclosed collaboration meeting space revealing exposed wood ceilings and exterior brink walls.

The Emery

Next month, the Emery will officially be unveiled in downtown Minneapolis. The new 10-story hotel offers views of the city skyline and easy access to attractions via the skyway, such as the U.S. Bank Stadium and Target Field.

The lobby design is reminiscent of an indoor/outdoor garden with lush greenery, while guestrooms will offer a mid-century vibe, paying homage to Emery’s past as Midland Bank. Giulia, a new contemporary Italian restaurant that aims to marry community, comfort and cocktails, will feature a bar-centric flexible space for both intimate and sociable dining and drinking in a casual atmosphere.

Emery will feature the first-ever downtown location of Twin Cities roaster, Spyhouse Coffee. Guests and locals will be able to pick up a fresh cup of Spyhouse’s signature roast coffee and pastries courtesy of Black Walnut Bakery. In the evening, Spyhouse will transform into a lobby lounge serving beer and wine.

The property will also include a redesigned fitness facility with Peloton bikes and local artwork in guest rooms throughout the property by artists such as Shana Kaplov and Edie Overtuf.
