LONDON—Nobu Hospitality will open the Nobu Hotel Shoreditch, London in 2016, its first European hotel.
Currently under construction, the hotel is under a long-term management agreement between Nobu Hospitality and the Willow Corp Sàrl, the owner of the hotel. It is being developed by Meir Abutbul, the London-based boutique hotel developer.
The 156-room hotel at 10-50 Willow Street in the Shoreditch area of London will offer a food and beverage menu to be developed by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa specifically for the hotel. Additionally, the hotel will feature banqueting and meeting rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center and modern amenities.
As with all Nobu properties, the design will reflect both the city of origin, as well as Nobu Hospitality’s signature east-meets-west philosophy. The overall interior design is a creative collaboration between Ben Adams Architects and Studio PCH.
The architectural design draws on the vibrant cultural and industrial context, according to the company. The hotel’s five stories are fractured into angular, fair-faced concrete balconies, which combined with cantilevered corten steel beams, form a seemingly frayed edge to the northern façade. Six protruding slab edges penetrate the glazing and are designed to accentuate the horizontality of the volume. Utilizing printed, layered glass, the highly reflective façade balances privacy and exposure, and interacts with its surroundings through the interplay of color, reflection and light, according to the company. A landscaped garden at the site’s eastern edge has terraces, seating and planting, and provides natural light and access to the lower triple height restaurant and bar space.
