Thursday October 10th, 2013 - 10:46AM

Atlantis Sanya Hainan is set to debut in 2016 in China.

SHANGHAI—Destination resort developer/operator Kerzner International Holdings, Ltd. inked an agreement with China-based Fosun International, Ltd. for a cutting-edge Atlantis resort along the Haitang Bay National Coast.

Atlantis Sanya Hainan will be the first Atlantis resort in China and the third Atlantis worldwide.

“Atlantis resorts have really defined the destinations they are located in—first in The Bahamas, and then on Palm Island in Dubai,” stated Fosun Chairman Guo Guangchang. “Atlantis Sanya Hainan will re-interpret the myth of Atlantis in a new and modern style, while pioneering previously unseen experiences to redefine holiday experiences in China and beyond. I am proud to be bringing Atlantis, a must-see resort, to Hainan, China.”

“I am very excited to be bringing Atlantis to China,” said Kerzner Chairman Sol Kerzner. “I know this property will astonish and amaze guests. I have been working with the designers to come up with something that captures all the wonders of Atlantis, with its magnificent sense of discovery, while also introducing new experiences specifically for Sanya. I can’t wait to unveil this resort to the world.”

New York-based Brennan Beer Gorman Architects has been selected for the architectural design of Atlantis Sanya Hainan, working with Kerzner’s development and design team, led by Kerzner and Alan Leibman, CEO/Kerzner International.

Architectural and conceptual planning is under way and construction will be complete in 2016.

Kerzner opened the first Atlantis, Paradise Island in The Bahamas, followed by Atlantis, The Palm atop the apex of Palm Island in Dubai.

Atlantis resorts are ocean-themed destinations offering a variety of entertainment with restaurants, bars and lounges; extensive slides and rides at Aquaventure Waterpark; fresh- and salt-water pools, lagoons and marine exhibits, including an open air marine habitat; and a dolphin interaction and education center, spa, luxury boutiques, event spaces and beaches.

More than 10,000 craftspeople will be engaged in building Atlantis Sanya Hainan, which will have approximately 1,300 guestrooms.
