BOSTON—The DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Boston - Cambridge, located along the banks of the Charles River, is placing the finishing touches on a multi-million dollar hotel transformation, which includes comprehensive upgrades throughout the hotel’s public areas and function space.

The 308 all-suite, full-service property is immediately adjacent to the shopping and dining options in Harvard Square, Cambridge’s bio-tech center and Harvard University.

Linda Snyder, principal of Linda Snyder Associates, Inc. (LSA), led the team of designers contracted to transform the public areas of the hotel. Snyder used lighting to create impact features and to guide guests through the activity areas of the hotel and function lobbies.

The LSA team also worked closely with the Hilton Global Design Services team to create the vision for the new spaces, and drew upon influences of the architecture and the storied history of the immediate surroundings to stage the guest journey through the hotel.  The contemporary design is anchored by reference to the textured brick and stone pattern and colors reflected in the Cambridge and Harvard University communities.

“The redesign of the hotel’s public spaces reflects a very relaxed and contemporary atmosphere which our guests will appreciate,” stated Larry Traxler, SVP, global design services, Hilton Worldwide.  “The hotel’s new look combines architectural and design elements that embody both the leafy, collegiate town atmosphere of Cambridge, while incorporating the dynamism and vibrancy of a large urban city which is Boston.”

As part of the first phase of the renovation, the hotel’s seasonal rooftop terrace opened for private events in April 2013 with a new look. The second phase of the renovation was completed in February 2013 and focused on the hotel’s meeting and banquet spaces, including two ballrooms, multiple breakout rooms and pre-function space.  The final phase of the renovation is scheduled to be completed this month and involves a complete reconfiguration of the hotel lobby with the addition of a grand staircase.
