FAIRFAX, VA—Playa Hotels & Resorts B.V. has created Playa Resorts Management, a subsidiary of Playa, coinciding with the company finalizing its agreement with an affiliate of Hyatt Hotels Corp. to be the first franchisee and initial management company for Hyatt’s new all-inclusive brands: Hyatt Zilara and Hyatt Ziva.
Playa has exclusive rights to own and operate Hyatt Zilara and Hyatt Ziva resorts in five Caribbean and Latin American countries through 2018.
In addition, Playa has added to its portfolio of owned and managed assets Real Resorts’ four all-inclusive properties: The Royal Cancun and The Royal Playa del Carmen, as well as the Gran Caribe Real Cancun and Gran Porto Real Playa del Carmen. The Royal Cancun will be rebranded as Hyatt Zilara Cancun in November.
Playa also owns the Barceló Los Cabos Palace Deluxe resort, which will be rebranded as Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos in November.
Additional Hyatt Zilara and Hyatt Ziva resorts will be introduced in 2014 and 2015, including the former Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort, recently acquired by Playa Hotels & Resorts, which will be rebranded as the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall, Jamaica, after a renovation and expansion project, expected to be complete in spring 2014.
The acquisition includes the existing hotel, beachfront adjacent to the hotel and the surrounding grounds with the exception of the White Witch Golf Course. The resort, which closed in May, presently includes 427 guestrooms and suites, 15,000 sq. ft. of event space and a full-service spa.
The planned expansion of the 13-year-old property will include an update to all existing guestrooms, meeting and event space, as well as the public areas. The expansion also includes the addition of 124 luxury suites and swim-up suites, a new swimming pool and several new food and beverage options.

The theme of this year’s ALIS conference was “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” But, lets face it, there are always going to be some people who aren’t happy unless they are worried about something—whether it’s the Fed potentially raising interest rates or that the price of oil is now too low, threatening to cripple the economies of some foreign nations.
