HONG KONG—Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has appointed Susanne Hatje the General Manager of the Mandarin Oriental, New York, effective today.
Hatje has held senior management positions at Mandarin Oriental for the past 13 years. She previously served as Group Director of Residences, where she managed all aspects of the Group’s global portfolio of The Residences at Mandarin Oriental. Prior to that, Hatje was the launch GM at Mandarin Oriental, Boston and The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong.
Additionally, she served as GM of Mandarin Oriental, Munich and Resort Manager at Kahala Mandarin Oriental, Hawaii. Early in her career, Hatje was Assistant Manager of The Mark, New York.
Hatje succeeds Jan Goessing, who has been promoted to EVP, Operations Director, The Americas, effective July 1, 2013.
The new GM joined the hospitality industry in 1988 as an apprentice as Atlantic Hotel Kempinski in Hamburg. She holds an MBA from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China.
