HONOLULU, HI—Outrigger Enterprises Group's Mel Kaneshige, EVP/real estate and development, has earned the Lifetime Achievement-Holo Pono Award from National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.
An industry veteran, Kaneshige oversees the acquisition, development and management of real estate assets for Outrigger Enterprises Group, as well as the acquisition of new hotel and condominium management contracts. He has been a key player in the growth and repositioning of the Outrigger real estate portfolio, which has grown from its Hawaii roots to the Asia-Pacific region and now includes 44 properties with nearly 11,000 rooms in Hawaii, Australia, Guam, Fiji, Bali, Thailand, Vietnam and Hainan Island, China.
Kaneshige also spearheaded the redevelopment and repositioning of signature Outrigger properties throughout Hawaii, including the $1.75 billion Waikiki Beach Walk development and the overall revitalization of Waikiki. His 10-year effort to amend the City’s zoning code enabled the largest development in Waikiki’s history and led the way for over $3 billion of redevelopment projects in Waikiki.
An active member of the community, Kaneshige is currently vice chairman and past chairman of the Waikiki Improvement Association; director and past chairman of the Hawaii District Council of the Urban Land Institute; a member of the board of governors of Iolani School in Honolulu; a director of Girl Scouts of Hawaii; and a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Honolulu. He is also a member of the American and Hawaii State Bar Associations and the American Planning Association.
“For more than 17 years, Mel has been an invaluable member of the Outrigger Ohana; we congratulate and give thanks to him for his dedication, determination and vision that gave rise to this well-deserved honor,” said David Carey, president/CEO of Outrigger Enterprises Group.
