BINGHAMTON, NY—The DoubleTree by Hilton Binghamton opened here, a conversion of the former Riverwalk Hotel and Conference Center that was badly damaged in 2011 by Tropical Storm Lee.
The property, which is owned by Alfred Weissman Real Estate and operated by the Newport Hospitality Group, underwent a two-year, multimillion-dollar renovation.
Located in the city’s downtown business and government districts, the hotel has a modern design highlighted by large picture windows throughout the lobby and public spaces. The 207-room hotel features suites with views of downtown and the Chenango River. The hotel also offers 32,000 sq. ft. of conference space, including a courtyard and outdoor garden terrace, and an amphitheater-style lecture room that can accommodate up to 50 persons.
“The fact that DoubleTree by Hilton wants to be a part of our city sends a very strong message about the resurgence of downtown Binghamton. The community is very excited about this transformation and the impact it will have on tourism in the market,” said Bud Nolan, the hotel's general manager.
DoubleTree by Hilton offers three other hotels in Upstate New York: two in Rochester and one in Syracuse.

The theme of this year’s ALIS conference was “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” But, lets face it, there are always going to be some people who aren’t happy unless they are worried about something—whether it’s the Fed potentially raising interest rates or that the price of oil is now too low, threatening to cripple the economies of some foreign nations.
