HOUSTON—SmartBrand Hotels LLC launched its SmartBrand Hotel concept at the AAHOA conference last week.
The La Quinta, CA-based brand is positioned as an alternative to the current standard franchise agreements and will provide the lost (flat) franchise fees in the industry with a one-year or multiple-year terms with no liquidated damages, according to the company.
Jim Mace, President, SmartBrand Hotels and Sr. Vp, Operations at Immersion Companies, has created the brand and will enlist the help of industry veteran John Russell, who is a special consultant.

For the past few years, the talk of The Lodging Conference in Phoenix had been focused on the economic recovery, solid industry projections and “cautious optimism.” With the word cautious no longer necessary, the economic outlook took a backseat this year to the seemingly unending parade of new lifestyle brands.
