CHICAGO—Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, which is currently holding its annual business conference here, in March will roll out a national pilot project to explore opportunities to innovate many touch points of its Radisson brand's hotel guest experience and also has expansion plans under way for the brand in Canada, the Caribbean and South America.
The pilot program will run through spring and summer across four hotels in the United States, including La Crosse, WI; Phoenix, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
The national pilot project will, among other enhancements, establish a new mobile and online check-in option; launch the Radisson iConcierge, an on-property concierge smartphone application; and launch an in-hotel charity program.
According to the company, the program is designed to improve the guest experience; improve brand perception and leverage property product improvements; increase experience levels by investing directly in the service concepts, as well as the skill sets and knowledge of teams at individual properties; achieve a positive impact on RevPAR and increased GSI and loyalty; and drive development and growth opportunities.
Using data collected during the pilot period, Radisson will roll out a final program of brand elements across all hotels beginning this autumn, with completion no later than year-end 2014.
In addition, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group will add three new hotels in Canada: Radisson Hotel and Conference Center Calgary Airport East, Park Inn by Radisson Toronto-Markham and Park Inn by Radisson Calgary Airport.
The Radisson Hotel & Convention Center Calgary Airport East, a 120-room hotel that will be the first to open along a newly constructed access road near the Calgary International Airport, is expected to open May 1.
The Park Inn by Radisson Toronto Markham, a newly renovated, 170-room hotel, is expected to open in March. The hotel will offer the brand’s own restaurant concept, RBG, meeting and convention space and recreational facilities including an indoor pool and fitness center.
The 228-room Park Inn by Radisson Calgary Airport is expected to open in fourth-quarter 2014, and will cater to business travelers.
Carlson Rezidor’s newest additions in Calgary and Ontario complement its existing Canadian portfolio of 32 hotels and 4,815 rooms in operation and under development.
Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group also is developing four hotels in the Caribbean and South America in addition to the recent opening of the 135-room Park Inn by Radisson San Jose, Costa Rica.
The newest additions include the 124-room Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados, expected to open in May; the 229-room Radisson Grenada Beach Resort, St. George, expected to open in third quarter; the 243-room Radisson Port of Spain Trinidad, expected to open in third quarter; and the 126-room Park Hotel by Radisson Vespucio, Santiago, Chile, expected to open in 2014.
The addition of these five new hotels increases Carlson Rezidor’s portfolio in the Caribbean, Central and South America to a total of 50 hotels and 7,939 rooms in operation and under development.

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China. In what could only be seen as good news for the industry, that expectation moved a little closer to reality when President Obama signed a visa waiver extension for Chinese travelers earlier this month.
