MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA—RIU Hotels & Resorts has begun construction of its fifth hotel in Jamaica, the 238-room luxury RIU Palace Jamaica.
The new hotel, which is scheduled to open in late 2013, will be age restricted, meaning guests have to be at least 18 years old to stay. The property is being constructed next to an existing RIU hotel, the RIU Montego Bay. Like the existing property, the RIU Palace Jamaica will overlook Mahoe Bay.
The RIU chain, which is based in Spain and was founded by the Riu family in 1953, now has more than 100 hotels in its portfolio in 16 countries.
