COLOMBIA, MD—MICROS Systems, Inc., a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality sector, has elected Peter Altabef to succeed A.L. “Tom” Giannopoulos as president and CEO, effective Jan. 2, 2013. Giannopoulos, who has been the CEO since 1993, will remain in the role of executive chairman during the period of his employment; he is set to retire June 30, 2014. After his retirement, the Board of Directors plans to appoint a non-executive independent chairperson. In addition, the Board has grown from 6 directors to 7, and Altabef will be appointed upon his start date in his new role. Altabef previously served as president and CEO of Perot Systems, a company that provided technology solutions, from 2004 until 2009 when it was acquired by Dell, Inc. He then served as president of Dell Services until 2011.
