SAN FRANCISCO, CA—Thayer Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on emerging technology companies in the travel and hospitality industry, has added to its Industry Advisory Board.
The additions include the following: Barry Sternlicht, founder and CEO of Starwood Capital Group; Don Carty, CEO of American Airlines; Greg Dollarhyde, CEO of The Veggie Grill; Jim Abrahamson, CEO of Interstate Hotels; Tom Klein, president of Sabre Holdings; Chuck Floyd, COO-North America of Hyatt Hotels Corporation; and Paul Brown, president of Hilton Worldwide.
Thayer Ventures plans to grow the Industry Advisory Board in the coming months.
In addition, TourWrist, a Thayer Ventures Portfolio Company, was recognized with a number of awards at PhoCusWright's Travel Innovation Summit held here recently. A start-up in the travel field, which allows consumers to shoot, publish and share 360-degree panoramic images of hotels and other travel-related businesses or attractions via smart phones, tablets or computers, TourWrist won the DEMO award for the Most Game-Changing Innovation, the conference award for the Most Innovative Emerging Company and the General Catalyst award for Travel Innovation, which includes $250,000 investment.
The most recent NYU Conference, earlier this month proved, once and for all, that the lodging industry has finally turned the corner and happy days are, indeed, here again. While the economists and pundits all provided plenty of anecdotal evidence to bear that out in terms of supply and demand ratios, RevPAR projections, asset values and all the other metrics, that’s not what has me convinced.
