ORADEA, ROMANIA—DoubleTree by Hilton opened its second property here in Romania, following a major investment by owner SIF Banat Crisana and SC Calipso SA. The new-build, 147-room hotel, located at 9 Aleea Strandului, includes four meeting rooms and the Varadinium Ballroom that can accommodate from 10 and 350 persons. The hotel has a variety of contemporary-style guestrooms and suites that feature a sitting area; high-speed Internet access; flat-screen, satellite television; ironing board; mini-bar; Crabtree & Evelyn bath and body products; and in-room tea- and coffee-making service. The hotel features Laurus, a contemporary restaurant serving Mediterranean dishes and Cafe Cris, where guests may enjoy a light snack, morning coffee or a glass of wine. The most recent NYU Conference, earlier this month proved, once and for all, that the lodging industry has finally turned the corner and happy days are, indeed, here again. While the economists and pundits all provided plenty of anecdotal evidence to bear that out in terms of supply and demand ratios, RevPAR projections, asset values and all the other metrics, that’s not what has me convinced.
