WHITE PLAINS, NY— Simon Turner has been appointed as the new president of global development for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. The fate of Starwood’s previous president of global development, Raymond “Rip” Gellein, was not disclosed. Gellein had held the title since July 2006 after being promoted to the position by former Starwood CEO Steven Heyer. Turner will report to Frits van Paasschen, Starwood’s current president and CEO. Turner was previously a principal for Hotel Capital Advisers, Inc., a hotel investment advisory and asset management firm. In his new role, Turner will be responsible for Starwood’s global development activities, including hotel and resort development, property acquisitions and dispositions, franchise and management pipeline expansion and real estate investment management.
