Economic Concerns Casting Long Shadow Over All Industry Events
It’s that time of the year again. It seems as if between now through the end of the year there’s some sort of conference, trade show or event scheduled every week. Last week I was in Miami Beach, FL, for HD Boutique. I’m writing this during the Lodging Conference in Phoenix and, later in the week, I will be heading to Los Angeles for the InterContinental Hotels Group Conference.

LOS ANGELES—Opening day here at the annual IHG Americas Investment and Leadership Conference carried a real kick to it this year. Even as CEO Andrew Cosslett was stressing to thousands of franchise owners the continuing need for InterContinental Hotels Group to push for competitive differentiation by having “Great hotels that guests love,” the United Kingdom-based hotel chain decided to take a giant side step in an ancillary direction and enter the timeshare arena.

Overbuilt Beijing Hotel Market Fails To Strike Gold During Olympics
Any hotel executive thats been around for any length of time will tell you sometimes the best deals are the ones you never make. As the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing wrapped up last month, the fact that London, and not New York City, was awarded the 2012 games appears to be a blessing in disguise for the local hotel market.

(NABHOOD), who are holding their 12th annual International Multicultural Tourism/Hotel Ownership Summit and Trade Show here at the Atlanta Marriott Century Center.
