WARNER SPRINGS, CA—Pacific Hospitality Group, Inc. acquired the historic 2,400-acre Warner Springs Ranch at auction and will take over operations April 1.

PHG plans to invest up to $50 million in the renovation and redevelopment of all facilities.

The property, which was founded as a working ranch in the mid-1800s and opened as a resort in the 1920s, currently encompasses a 27,000-sq.-ft. main lodge, 250 casita units, a 144-acre golf course and club house, four tennis courts, equestrian facilities, two restaurants, a spa, campgrounds, three swimming pools, a private airport and meeting facilities.

According to PHG Chairman William H. McWethy Jr., an extensive renovation will be completed in phases, with the first phase—a completely upgraded and renovated golf course—slated for completion in spring 2014.

PHG also plans to incorporate new features, including winery/tasting room; gym and fitness facility; beach and tennis club; expanded meeting facilities; a spa/wellness center; cultural center; and a variety of food and beverage options. In addition, the existing 250 casita units and main lodge will be upgraded and renovated.

Founded by McWethy in 1986, PHG has a long history in the hotel industry and was instrumental in renovating such historic San Diego properties as Old Town’s Hacienda Hotel and Heritage Park.
