WASHINGTON–New accessibility rules concerning the use of swimming pools and whirlpools, including at hotels and resorts, under the revised Americans with Disabilities Act have now taken effect.
The new rules, outlined in advisories from the Department of Justice, have been controversial for more than a year with the American Hotel & Lodging Association protesting at the Department of Justice and on Capitol Hill on behalf of hotel owners and operators.
The AH&LA was successful in obtaining an extension of the original deadline and most hotels and resorts have now taken steps to comply with the new requirements.
