STAMFORD, CT–Already known in the industry for its energy-conservation programs, Element Hotels has installed a stationary bicycle with a pedal-powered generator in each of its hotels.

The stationary bike in the fitness center in each of Element's 10 hotels allows guests, by pedaling, to fully charge their tablet or smart phone. The Element brand, which is part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, beta tested the bicycle/generator program in the Element Miami and found guest response to be so positive, it made the program brandwide.

According to Brian McGuinness, Starwood SVP of specialty select brands, not only do the pedal-powered bikes charge guests' devices, but it encourages guests to think creatively about sourcing the energy people depend on to fuel their daily lives.
